Fashion Challenge / Small Town Edition

It's that time again where I prove to you that there are fab finds out there that don't break the bank.  Like literally though, you could rob a child's piggy bank and probably pay for this outfit and still have change leftover for them not to notice (not that that would be nice)!  If you haven't been following along just click on the segments tab above to get up to speed on what my fashion challenges are all about and check out previous posts here and here.
So let's get to it shall we ladies?  Below you will see that I was able to style my entire look from head-to-toe from Value Village, duh!  I love the variety, you almost feel like a pirate looking through other peoples treasures.  Ok, well anyway that's how I feel! Awkward?  It's very important to walk in with an open mind and allow the creativity to seep in.  This is what allows the magic to happen!  So check it out for yourself!
So if you did the math you would have thought this outfit was $36.91, right? WRONG!  Good 'ol VV has a special stamp program and since my card was full I got 30% off!  WHAAAAAAAAT?  Yep, this entire look cost me $25.84 I dare you to try and beat that!  But really though if you did I would want to know.  I would give you mad props!
Here's a little rundown of what I scored.  The tank is just one of those fruit of the looms which I genuinely wear anyway.  The blazer is a bit big but I don't mind for five bucks.  The shorts were actually a pair of jeans and omg I loved them!  The intention was always to cut them but for some reason I just liked the way they fit.  They possibly could have been my favourite boyfriend jeans but since  they were Hayes I feel like I'll find another pair in the future and they couldn't have turned out more perfect as the high-waisted denim shorts I was looking for.  You can see me wearing them here in New York the other weekend.  I was super happy with the jewellery I scored.  I wear the bracelets all the time and the necklace you would have seen in my previous WHAT2WEAR post here.  Then I stumbled upon this mint condition briefcase.  Think it's silly if you want but I actually love it and my iPad fits inside perfectly!!  The cool part that really came together with this look were the shoes and belt.  Oxblood was a favourite colour of mine over the winter months so I was drawn to the shoes immediately.  Aside from the colour they are simply super cute loafers that I can wear with so much!  The fact that I found the belt to match perfectly still blows my mind.  The bit of colour was a nice touch to the outfit and also tied in well with the accessories.  I actually wore the belt yesterday for the first time, check it out here.

So that's it!  What do you think, would you wear a similar look?

Outfit of the day / Summer tan

There is something so pretty about this soft look of pairing cream and tan.  I did a post in the past admiring the combination (here) and now I've finally brought it to life for you.  I love my faux leather leggings in black but when I saw these ones I had to have them too!  The blouse I'm wearing is actually one of my favourite pieces in my closet.  It's got perfect flow, intricate crochet detailing around the neck and I couldn't believe how amazing it looked once I paired it with these leggings.  I love finding ways to re-wear certain pieces to achieve completely different looks.  In the past I've always worn this blouse with jeans so switching it up to this was a pleasant discovery.  The hat I just adore because of it's texture and it very much pulled this whole look together.  The shoes I added a pop of colour, but not too much!  The detailing you don't see is the cut-out in the heel, amazing I know!  If you hurry you just might be able to still get these shoes at BCBG and on sale!

Trend Struck does NYC

This past weekend I went to New York for the first time ever.  My birthday was back in March but my sister kept 'putting off' my gift until she finally broke the news that she booked us a trip to New York!  Yep she's the best!  Since I went with my sister I wasn't interested in doing all the sight seeing instead I just wanted to wander, absorb the City and simply do a lot of what we both do best: shop!
We stayed at the Hudson Hotel which I highly recommend.  For those of you in Toronto I would describe the vibe similar to the Drake.  As soon as you enter there is a giant escalator you ride up only to be greeted by a magnificent check-in area with vines growing everywhere, a massive chandelier and a view to the outdoor terrace.  Since our first day there was very rainy we decided to stay in and thankfully there was a party happening right in our hotel to enjoy... while staying dry!
Places we brunched at were Mercer Kitchen and ABC Kitchen, both lovely!  We enjoyed tacos at La Esquina and a drink at the Standard Hotel.
So what about the fashion right?  Since our first day was raining we decided to hit up department stores to keep dry.  Lucky for us there were designer sales happening everywhere so just about everything I ended up with was on sale!  Love that!  We spent most of our time shopping in Soho where I fantasized   over shops that I couldn't afford and splurged in the little shops that I could.  Two things in particular that I have to share with you that took me a trip to New York to notice is Sigerson Morrison shoes and Retrosuperfuture sunglasses.  Seriously could have bought every shoe by Sigerson Morrison that's how beautiful they all were.  You can find the pair I ended up with below (they are the blue ones).  I love sunglasses but don't necessarily have a brand that are my go to... until now that is.  Every pair of sunglasses I tried on by retrosuperfuture I was freaking out over.  I had already purchased one pair of sunnies before I discovered these beauties so I had to decide on just one.  That is until I got back to Toronto.  Sometimes when I fall in love with something I'll obsess over it until I buy it.  Yes, I'm fully aware I'm making myself sound like a lunatic that doesn't have control over her shopping habits!  And
perhaps that's the truth since I tracked down the other pair of retrosuperfuture sunglasses that were on my mind and had them in my possession less then 48 hours of returning from New York.
Anyway, our final day was a beautiful day and since our hotel was steps to central park we spent a good chunk of the afternoon wandering around with a coffee in hand followed by a stroll through the upper east side.
It was a farewell to New York but I know I'll say hello again very soon.

Now check out my trip to New York through the lens of an iPhone
