Style At Night......Halloween

Since this weekend was Halloween I chose the costume, or in this case costumes, that stood out to me most for my Style At Night segment.  I loved that these two women were out together and decided to do the good versus bad from the movie Black Swan.  I applaud them for doing a job well done at capturing each of their roles so well.  The Black Swan was obviously all done in black, with dark heavy make-up that had beautiful detailing off to the side of the eye but I also loved that she was in a more sexy corset with a shorter tutu.  The White Swan on the other hand was soft in all white, very minimal make-up and she wore a more covered body suit with a longer tutu that I thought captured the innocence very well.  Loved the concept and loved the execution

Change Room Diaries

Today's images were captured in the change rooms of Club Monaco

What can I say, my favourite place to shop is Club Monaco.  If you follow my outfits then I'm sure this is something you already knew.  This was a great comfy business casual look.  The skirt is a great Fall wardrobe addition with its knee length and navy blue colour and brown suede accents.  I paired it with a neutral cream over sized sweater that had thin gold stripes.  Comfortable while looking good
I actually have a dress already from Club Monaco that has pretty much the same cut but a bit shorter and in grey.  I liked the length and colour of this one so thought I would give it a shot.  I picked out this brown leather wrap around belt that perfected the dress.  I think this outfit would look great for Fall once completed with a pair of tights and knee high brown leather boots
I just can't say no to a flowy top from Club.  The colours are beautiful and neutral making it easy to pair this top up with just about anything for the Fall season.  Run quick because this top is currently marked down!

SIXTIES

This Halloween weekend I will be working at a nightclub that is doing a circus theme.  Since we all have to be a character at a circus of some sort I have chosen to be a leopard Friday night and a ringleader on Saturday.  As much as I have turned these required costumes into a fun project I did already have my costume for this year chosen about two months ago.  Since myself and a lot of my girlfriends will be working over the weekend we have all decided to go out and have fun for ourselves on the Sunday.  This leaves a night to dress up with no restrictions - how exciting!  So as I mentioned about two months ago I was picking out a new fashion coffee table book to add to my collection and I was flipping through one of Versace's books in the store when I came across the image featured in my collage below.  It was that instant that I was completely sold on doing a sixties themed outfit for Halloween.  Since my other two idea's are very costumey this will be fun and a bit different because this one will be heavily dependent on hair and make-up which is exactly what drew me so quickly to the idea. I love the heavy eyeliner, thick lashes and excessive volume of the hair.  I have a silver dress that immediately popped into my head as to what I would wear.  With the final touches of fun accessories this costume will be complete.  But don't be fooled into thinking this appears to be the easiest costume of the three because I'm counting on it being the toughest to master the perfect make-up and hair.  After I do a trial of both tonight I will make the final decision to hire someone for help or not.  I hope you are looking forward to the finished product of each costume as much as I am!

Toronto Fashion Week

Last Friday was the closing of Toronto's LG Fashion Week also marking its 25th season of showcasing Canadian talent.  I have volunteered to help out with Fashion Week in the past for the SS 2010 as well as FW 2010 to experience a bit of what goes on behind the scenes.  One thing that hasn't changed is the over flow of people in the stands who eagerly await the shows of Joe Fresh, Pink Tartan and Vawk.   Our talent in this Country is increasing and our Country as a whole is beginning to get international recognition in the fashion world that is exciting.  This season there were two shows that stood out to me.  The first was by Laura Siegel who is a young woman that had a beautiful carefree collection of faint neutral colours, fluttery fabrics and fringe and layered outfits using scarves.  The next show I would like to draw attention to was the Korhani Home Rug Runway Show.  This show was so fun!  It started off with the creativity of wearable 'rugs' then halfway through the collection turned into an Alice in Wonderland theme that had models looking like the stories characters and even incorporated real bunnies into the show that were held by a few of the models.

Halloween Inspiration Board

LEOPARD

As I mentioned in my first Halloween inspiration board early this week (find it here) we are doing a circus theme this year.  Since I am already a ringleader one night I wanted to change it up for the next night.  So Friday myself and a couple other girls will each be different animals.  As you already put it together I have chosen to be a leopard.  I chose this because I love a good excuse to wear animal print and also have a pair of leopard pants that I love but don't always have the right occasion to wear them.  The last time I wore them was at one of last Fall's Toronto Fashion Week after parties (you can see them worn here).  I found myself a kit with the ears and tail to match, a set of whiskers and a fur shawl that I will hold together with a leopard print bow I took off a headband.  Stay tuned for how the costume turns out as well as one more costume idea I have in store for a night outside of the circus theme.

Change Room Diaries

'Change Room Diaries' is a weekly segment that gives you a peek into some of the looks I try on while out on a day of shopping.  Since not everything can come home with me I'm still inspired by outfits I can put together with a huge selection at my fingertips in stores.

Today's images were captured in the change rooms of H&M

One of the items on my list to find was a pair of red pants.  I couldn't be happier with the ones I found at H&M to my surprise.  Not only was the colour exactly what I was looking for and similar to the style I wanted but it also had fantastic detailing that had me sold.  You can see a bit of the detailing here.  This off white lace top was also a great compliment to these bright pants with buttons leading up the back middle seam.

This day I was also on a mission to find an orange top.  This tank top ended up being the exact hue of orange I was looking for but unfortunately I wasn't successful in finding a style I liked.  Regardless I still brought it home with me since it was a $6 tank and will be a great basic to have for under a blazer.  The pants in this shot were also super fun.  They had a great print for the Fall season and actually fit quite great.

These shorts were a great little surprise to come across while I was shopping.  Not only are they cheap faux leather shorts but they fit my body amazing!  I can't wait to incorporate these into one of my looks some day soon.

October Inspiration Board

So I only discovered the site polyvore.com over this past weekend and I became instantly obsessed.  I am an avid scrapbooker and love the  use of collages and since I don't have any photoshop skills this is a perfect alternative.
This is my October inspiration board that is assembled around the colour orange.  As it gets cooler with the Fall season in effect blazers will be incorporated into my everyday wear.  As bright colours are part of this seasons trend I'll be pairing them up with my neutral tones to blend with natures Fall elements and still continue to love my gold accessories

RINGLEADER

A circus theme is in effect this Halloween!  One night I have chosen to be a ringleader.  My inspiration came from the talented Britney Spears who I actually saw live front row when she was on her circus tour and have never forgotten this costume (among a few others).  Since I am with a team of three other girls this night we will all be doing our own variations of the ringleader costume utilizing the colours black, red and gold.  Before I headed off shopping I put together an inspiration board of how I could see myself dressed up for this character.  I envision a satin red corset with high waisted sequin shorts and a black blazer with the tail on the back and gold embellishments.  To top it all off I see fishnet stockings, thigh high boots, a sparkly red miniature top hat and a black whip in hand.  Stay tuned for how the costume ends up coming together AND vision boards for the next two out of three costumes for Halloween 2011

Style At Night

I love a good outfit complete with some fur!  We had high winds last night and this little one attracted me because of how she put a weather appropriate outfit together and still was an eye catcher in the nightclub.  She followed the rules well with wearing mostly black and nothing else distracting aside from the fur vest that was definitely the statement piece.  On top of that I loved that she wore knee high socks, showing personal style, with a neutral boot and a simple little black tasseled sling purse.  With a great outfit, beautiful hair and make-up this girl looked all put together last night.

'Style at night' will be a weekend edition of outfits that catch my eye in the nightclub environment.  Aside from magazines and celebrities a lot of my influence of style come from people around me on a day to day basis.  My eyes are always immediately drawn to what a person is wearing and if I like it I begin to catalogue idea's in my head for when I go back into my closet to pull out a new look.

Loved all the detailing in this lace crop top

I have been on a mission to find an inexpensive black dress for my job on the weekends and I can't tell you how difficult the search has been.  To be honest I pulled three black dresses this day and I thought this would be the one I liked least.  I was wrong!  I loved the side cut outs and the way it hung on my body made the decision very easy that this was the one!  FINALLY!

Fashion Weeks Top 10 Favs

A week ago today marked the ending of the worlds most anticipated Fashion Weeks showcasing Spring/Summer Ready to Wear looks for 2012

It all started off in New York City where I was eager to see what the finalists of Project Runway came up with for their final challenge before the winner was announced.  I have to say I was quite impressed with what they sent down the stage.  Other designers I had my eye on were DVF, Jenny Packham, Vera Wang and of course the amazing Oscar de la Renta who did not disappoint
.  The next stop on the list was London.  I don't find this week to be the most exciting but none the less I was looking forward to seeing what was in store for Spring/Summer from House of Holland, Mulberry, Burberry and of course the talent of Tom Ford.  Off to Milan we went where many of the top most recognized brands hit the catwalk like Gucci, Fendi, Prada, Versace, Giorgio Armani, Roberto Cavalli and Dolce & Gabbana.  The final location of Fashion Week ended in Paris.  In my opinion the best was saved for last.  I was drooling over look after look and found it most difficult to narrow down my top ten favourite looks.  Designers that had me captivated included Christian Dior, Lanvin, Jean Paul Gaultier, Givenchy, Stella McCartney, Chloe, Yves Saint Laurent, Chanel, Valentino, Alexander McQueen and Louis Vuitton.  What is there NOT to enjoy about Paris Fashion Week?!

In conclusion Paris was easily my Fashion Week of choice.  As for the designer Chanel had me mesmerized between the clothes and the dreamy under the sea stage set up.  I would also have to say that Alexander McQueen met Chanel head to head.  Every model that stepped out on the runway was so intriguing by the art work that was created for them to wear in addition to the eerie headpieces  that completed each of his looks.
Below are my top 10 runway looks for each Fashion Week.  Enjoy xo
